We live in a world where a price tag is placed on everything: the tangible and intangible. Property, cars, clothing are purchased based on the presumed value. Homes are sold and cars are traded in based on the appraised value. Investors consult with funds managers before purchasing stock, mutual funds, and other commodities. The amount of life insurance an individual has implies his or her worth.
There are people who live and die never discerning their value. George Bailey, the protagonist in the Christmas film classic "It's A Wonderful Life" is a man who sacrificed his dreams and youth on behalf of the citizens in fictional Bedford Falls and failed to realize his value. George's life was spiraling downward into an abject emotional abyss when he resolved suicide was the only solution for his life of woe. However, when George's guardian angel Clarence intervenes, George Bailey has an epiphany: he has indeed lived a wonderful life.
How long has it been since you assessed your worth as an individual, not your net worth? One's value should never be equated by the vehicle(s) possessed, custom attire, or the gated community in which you reside in.
The Bible is replete with scriptures illustrating the new identity of those in covenant with Jesus Christ:
1. "God created human beings;
he created them godlike,
Reflecting God's nature,"
Genesis 1:26 Message Translation
2. "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,
God's special possession . . ."
I Peter 1:9 NIV
3. " I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful . . ."
Psalm 139:14 NIV
The vicissitudes of life, however, and evil forces from Hell can cause one to become imploded with fear, anxiety, and dread after being assaulted season and season by fiery darts. The scripture states: "And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High . . ." Daniel 7:25 KJV
The advent season is typically a joyous time of mirth and merriment for many, but others are thrust into depths of depression as they reflect over the past year when they are reminded of the loved ones who are no longer with them, incomes that have fluctuated, or jobs that have been lost. Nevertheless, the remedy to spiritual attacks is found in the Word of God.
Never retreat to defeat in any context. Know who you are in Christ and resolve that you are are invaluable!
